- Clean it once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste using warm, not hot, water. Hot water can warp the plastic.
- Keep it in its case whenever it’s out of your mouth — not in a napkin, a pocket, or anywhere a pet can reach it.
- Remove it for swimming, and keep it away from hot car dashboards and the washing machine.
Caring for a Fixed (Bonded) Retainer
A bonded retainer doesn’t come out, so there’s nothing to lose or forget — but it still needs attention. Floss carefully underneath the wire daily using a floss threader or water flosser, and avoid biting directly into hard foods like whole apples or corn on the cob, which can pop the wire loose.
